Privacy Policy
In short
- Your photos and videos are compressed on your device. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
- The app uses the Internet only for ads from Google AdMob (section 4), the consent form, the Remove ads purchase, and crash reports and anonymous usage statistics through Google Firebase (section 5).
- There are no accounts. We do not sell or share personal data. Usage statistics record which features are used, never file names, sizes or contents.
- We receive something from you only if you email us, for example with Send feedback (section 6).
- Your results and the list of recent results stay on your device, and you can delete them at any time.
1. Who we are
Shrinkwise ("the app") for Android, iPhone and iPad is published by RianStudio ("we", "us"). Where the two versions differ, this policy says so. Questions about this policy: support@rianstudio.app.
2. Information the app handles
All of the following is processed on your device only. None of it is transmitted to us.
- Photos and videos you choose. You pick files with the system photo picker or file picker, share them to the app from another app, or (iPhone and iPad) pass them in from a shortcut in the Shortcuts app. The app gets only the files you chose. It asks to read your library only if you open "Find big videos" (iPhone and iPad: access to Photos, asked on that page; Android: the folder you pick, usually the camera folder), and uses that only to list your videos by size on that page; refused, everything else works the same. Files shared from another app or passed in from a shortcut are copied into the app's private storage, because the other app's permission to read them can expire. Asking Siri to compress opens the app's photo picker; the app does not receive what you said.
- Compression. The app reads each file, writes a smaller copy in its private storage, and shows you both sizes. Your originals are not changed.
- Location and camera details. By default the app removes location (GPS) and camera details from the copies it makes; the capture date stays. You can turn this off before compressing.
- Recent results. The app keeps the smaller copies and a short record of each job (file names, sizes, dimensions, duration and a thumbnail) in its private storage, so you can open them again from Recent. You can delete a record in the app.
- Saving. When you tap Save, the copies are added to your photo library (iPhone and iPad: the app asks only for permission to add photos, not to read them; Android 9 and lower: the app asks for storage permission at that moment) or written to a folder you pick. Moving originals out of the way (to the trash on Android, to Recently Deleted on iPhone and iPad, where they stay for 30 days) only happens when you ask for it, and always goes through the system's own confirmation; on iPhone and iPad it needs access to Photos, asked at that moment.
- Notifications and progress. On Android, a notification shows a job's progress while it runs, and if it finishes while you are in another app, a notification shows the result (how many files, their total size before and after) with a Share button. On Android 13 and higher the app asks for permission to post notifications after your first job; refused, jobs run the same without them. On iPhone and iPad, a job's progress appears in the system's progress banner or as a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, showing how many files are done and, at the end, their total size before and after, never file names; no permission is asked. All of this is created on your device and is not sent through any server.
- Settings and counters. Your choices, whether you own Remove ads, and counters used to space out ads and the rating request are stored on your device.
3. What we do not do
- We do not upload, view or keep your photos or videos, and we do not read files you did not choose.
- We do not collect your contacts, precise location, or anything you type.
- We do not sell, rent or share your files or their details with anyone, including advertisers.
- The app adds no watermark and does not lower quality for users who see ads.
4. Advertising
The app shows ads served by Google AdMob, operated by Google LLC (Google Ireland Limited for users in the EEA and UK). Ads appear only between tasks: a native ad under Recent and on the compressing page, sometimes a full-screen ad after a job finishes and before its result, and a video ad only when you choose to watch one to unlock a large job. To show, limit and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect and process your device's advertising ID, IP address, approximate location derived from it, device model and operating system, app usage related to ads, and cookies or similar identifiers. None of your photos, videos or their details are included.
- Consent. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app asks for your choice through Google's consent form before any ad is requested. You can change it at any time in Settings → Privacy options.
- Personalised ads. On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalisation, in your device's Google or privacy settings.
- Tracking on iPhone and iPad. The first time an ad is about to load, iOS asks whether the app may track you (App Tracking Transparency). Only if you allow it is the advertising identifier (IDFA) available to Google for personalised ads; if you do not, ads are still shown but are not based on that identifier. You can change your answer in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Remove ads. A one-time in-app purchase turns all ads off and unlocks large jobs without a video ad. The purchase is handled by Google Play (under the Google Payments Privacy Notice) or the App Store (under Apple's Privacy Policy); the app never sees your payment details. It only asks the store whether your account owns "Remove ads", and remembers the answer on the device.
- Google's use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
5. Crash reports and usage statistics
The app uses Google Firebase, operated by Google LLC (Google Ireland Limited for users in the EEA and UK):
- Firebase Crashlytics sends a report when the app crashes: the stack trace, device model, operating system version, app version and an installation identifier. It contains no file names or file contents.
- Firebase Analytics records which features are used, as fixed values and counts only: that the app was opened; that a job started, finished or stopped, its kind (by size, by quality, convert, shared in, saved), how many files it had and a general reason if it failed (for example "out of storage"); that the share sheet was opened; ad impressions (format and place in the app); and a Remove ads purchase. With these come an app-instance identifier, device type, operating system version, app version and approximate country. It never records file names, sizes, dimensions or contents. Analytics starts only after the consent step; in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it follows the choices you make in the consent form, which you can change in Settings → Privacy options.
- Firebase Remote Config downloads settings, such as how often ads may appear. It sends only an installation identifier.
Analytics data is kept for at most 14 months and crash reports for 90 days. See the Firebase privacy information.
6. Actions you choose
Some actions hand your files to another app only when you tap them: sharing through the system share sheet (from a result or its notification), or saving to a folder you pick. In Settings, Rate opens the App Store or Google Play, and Share Shrinkwise shares a link to the app's store page, nothing else. Once a file is in another app or service, that app's or service's own privacy policy applies. Asking for a rating uses the store's own rating dialog.
Send feedback. In Settings, Send feedback opens your email app with a new message to support@rianstudio.app. Below your text it adds the app version, the operating system version and the device model, so we can reproduce a problem; you can change or delete them before sending. Nothing is sent unless you send the email. If you do, we receive your email address, your message, anything you attach and those details. We use them only to answer you and fix the problem, do not add you to any mailing list, and delete the conversation once it is no longer needed, or sooner if you ask.
7. Device backup
Android: the app's files, results and settings are excluded from Android's cloud backup and from device-to-device transfer.
iPhone and iPad: like most apps, the app's data is included in your device backup if you use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer; that backup is managed by Apple and by you, not by us.
8. Data retention and deletion
Results and records stay on your device until you delete them in the app, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app. Copies of files shared in from another app or passed in from a shortcut are deleted from the app's storage after seven days on Android, and together with the job's record on iPhone and iPad.
9. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Ads in the app are limited to content suitable for general audiences.
10. Your rights
Because we do not receive your files or any account details, there is no personal data held by us to access, correct or delete beyond the identifiers described in sections 4 and 5 and any emails you have sent us (section 6), which we will show you or delete on request. You can withdraw consent to ads and analytics in Settings → Privacy options, limit tracking in your device settings, and delete Firebase data tied to this installation by uninstalling the app. For requests about data processed by Google, see the Google Privacy Policy. You can also contact us at the address below, and you have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
11. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
